DURING HIS European “farewell tour” President George W. Bush made a visit to France, where he is still as unpopular as ever. On June 13, the day of his arrival, some 1,000 activists marched from Place de la République down Avenue Voltaire in central Paris to protest Bush’s policies—particularly the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and his unwavering support for Israel—and also his friendship with their president, Nicholas Sarkozy.
“George Bush’s policies make the world more dangerous,” one Frenchman told the Washington Report.
Leading the march was “Lady Liberty” wearing a star-shaped Texas sheriff’s badge as she “arrested” a handcuffed George Bush impersonator for war crimes.
Americans Against the War (France) and 25 other human rights and anti-war organizations organized the evening event.
