Deir Yassin Remembered Minnesota Memorial

Khalil Bendib’s wax model of the second Deir Yassin Memorial in the U.S. (Photo courtesy Khalil Bendib).

THANKS TO the generosity of Nick and Mary Eoloff, the adoptive parents of Mordechai Vanunu (a Deir Yassin Remembered board member for the past six years), and the Arab-American community in Minneapolis, Minnesota, there will be a second Deir Yassin Memorial. It will be a bronze statue of an uprooted olive tree, representing the dispossession of the Palestinian people and their undying attachment to the lands of historical Palestine.

A wax model (above) will be used to make the sand mold into which the bronze will be poured. The statue will be mounted on a granite base with a plaque briefly describing the tragedy of Deir Yassin and what it symbolizes. The artist is the renowned sculptor Khalil Bendib, who is also known for his pointed political cartoons.

As always, DYR needs your financial support to complete this project and to plan further such projects in the future. Please help by sending a contribution to: Deir Yassin Remembered, 4174 Scandling Center, Geneva, NY 14456. For more information e-mail <DYR1948@deiryassin.org>.
