USS LIBERTY REMEMBRANCE
A remembrance ceremony honoring the 34 Americans killed in the
1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty will be held in Arlington
National Cemetery, Section 34, at 12 noon on June 8, the anniversary
of the attack. The ceremony is sponsored by No Greater Love, which
provides "programs of friendship and care for families of Americans
who died in service to our country, by acts of terrorism or in the

POLICY CONFERENCE
The Center for Policy Analysis on Palestine will hold its Second
Annual International Conference, on "Palestinian Statehood,"
June 22 and 23 at the Georgetown University Conference Center in
Washington, DC. Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, spokeswoman for the Palestinian
delegation to Mideast peace talks, will be the keynote speaker at
the June 22 banquet, and Eric Rouleau will be the next day's luncheon
speaker. Participants in the June 23 panels will include Yusif Sayigh,
Sari Nusseibeh, Ann Lesch, William Quandt, Joel Benin and Rashid

OPPORTUNITIES
Students completing dissertations between July 1, 1992 and July
1, 1993 are invited to submit entries for the Middle East Studies
Association's 1993 Malcolm H. Kerr Awards in the categories of social
sciences and humanities. An award of $500 will be made for the winning
entry in each category. Dissertations must be nominated by the author's
sponsor or adviser and accompanied by a letter of acceptance for
the degree and a 250-400 word abstract. For complete information,

Nominations for the 1994 King Faisal International Prizes are currently
being accepted for the topics Science: Mathematics; Medicine: Medical
Applications of Genetic Engineering; Islamic Studies: Studies Dealing
With Islamic Law (Fiqh): and Arabic Literature: Studies Dealing
With Ancient Arabic Prose. Nominations may be submitted by international
institutions and organizations; nominations are not accepted from

Applications for Fulbright and other grants available to North
Africa and the Mideast are currently being accepted. Candidates
must be U.S. citizens who have a B.A. or equivalent by the beginning
date of the grant, but who do not hold a Ph.D. at the time of application.
Grants are available in most fields of study. Currently enrolled
students should consult their campus Fulbright Program Adviser for
applications and deadline information. "At-large" students
