Levantine Center Features Women Artists and Poets

UNDER THE theme, “East/West Convergences,” the Levantine Cultural Center (LCC) opened an art exhibition showcasing the works of Kinda Hibrawi and Nouha Sinno with a Jan. 29 reception. Arab-American poets Dima Hilal and May Alhassen read some of their latest works.
LCC director Jordan Elgrably opened the program by explaining that he chose the two artists because they integrate Arabic calligraphy into their work. The Syria-born Hibrawi has just completed a new series entitled “Dear Mr. Gibran” that is dedicated to the Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran whose book, The Prophet, is a favorite of western and eastern readers.
Sinno, who hails from Lebanon, employs Arabic phrases from the Qur’an to celebrate the universal language of peace.
